The opening of 1 Saint-Thomas marks an important step in Science Po’s history and reshapes its Parisian Campus. This campus, which welcomes nearly 10,000 students, is spread across 12 sites located North and South of Boulevard Saint_Germain. Beyond the architectural challenge, this project of turning a 17th-century former monastery into an innovative sustainable university campus, represents a complete make-over for Sciences Po 150 years after its creation. STUDIO MUGO has lent its expertise and know-how to this complex project to conceive landscaped courtyards as true “green bubbles”, in the style of Anglo-Saxon university campuses, where zen gardens, green workspace, fruit orchards and vegetable gardens come together. Students, teachers, researchers, and visitors can mingle, debate, and recharge their batteries in this new landscape at the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Pré. The team led by property developer Sogelyn Dixence brougt together for this project some of the biggest names in architecture including firms Wilmotte and Moreau Kusunoki and Pierre Bortolussi, head architect of Listed Monuments.
